CUDA at Arts and Music Festival at the Park
On behalf of CUDA Culture – Community for Urban Dance & Art, thank you to everyone who supported our free event, as part of the music and art festival presented by the Washington Park Association of Hudson County, Inc. (WPA), in Jersey City on Saturday (9-22-2012). Big thank you to WPA for keeping us part of the annual festivities. SPECIAL THANKS to the judges of the battles, BedRock, Break Easy, and Paranoia (who judged three battles in 1 day!) for their invaluable input, time, and energy in the battles, and our awesome host Madmaxx Nbk. Thanks to Eugene Yu for filming. And also, thanks to those who battled through the heat — great energy, great times! Congrats to our 1st place winner Ekcite Mateo for the 7-to-Smoke Footwork Battle, and to Raja Rally and Carlo Verano for taking 1st Place in the Kids Battles!! Shout out to Henry Rival Vijande for a successful jam at Nbk Jersey NBK Studio. “2012 ESSENTIAL ELEMENTZ SUMMER PROGRAM”
Giving young people the opportunity to cultivate expressive talent and creativity in the urban arts through:
B-Boying/B-Girling (Instructor: B-Boy Rival, NBK)
& EMCEEING (Instructor: Hasan Salaam)
Student will be able to:
-learn the fundamentals of breakdancing
-understand the value of physical fitness
-learn an introduction to history of Hip Hop Culture
-develop non-verbal communication skills
-learn the fundamentals of emceeing
-practice creative writing
-practice public speaking & performance
-explore the evolution of Hip Hop music
-understand the connection of literacy and self-expression
This will be a 6-week pilot program for breaking and emceeing. At the culminating celebration, students will showcase their works in a public performance at the Annual Creative GROVE Under Siege in Jersey City, by Sirelo Entertainment (FRIDAY, JULY 27TH). All participating students will receive a certificate of participation, gain community service hours (used towards HS graduation), in addition to great friendships and an amazing summer experience to remember!
Special PRIZES will be awarded to students achieving:
-Perfect Attendance
-Most Improved
-Outstanding Achievement

CUDA Intro DJ classes ***COMING SOON- SIGN UP TODAY!
This course will teach you how to hook up and work DJ equipment. DJ skills to be focused on will be beat matching, cutting and scratching on an introductory level. A strong emphasis will be on lab time to practice with an experienced DJ.
Cost: This course is limited to 9 students therefore if you make a donation of $100 donation, this will reserve a space for the student for the entire program. If the student does not show up for more than 2 classes, the reservation will be forfeited without refund.
All other participants are encouraged to make a suggested donation of $10 to support CUDA programming.
About the Teacher: DJ Korn has played for over 15 years. His distinct sound of cutting and scratching master over the a wide selection of urban sounds such as breaks, hip hop, house, drum and bass and other funky electronic music. His claim to fame was as a resident DJ in the infamous Tunnel and Limelight, played for Ultraworld festival and wining the Urb magazine mix-tape contest.
Dates: SATURDAYS 2-3PM
Required materials:
- 2 12″ vinyl records. Teacher will have records for sale at $6 for 2 records.
- Note book and pen.
